Frequently Asked Questions

When should I arrive?

The yoga room opens 15 minutes before the class starts so it is a good idea to get there early and get settled before your class. You will get the most from your class if you can fit it into your schedule without stress including the journey there.

What do I need to bring?

I have a limited number of mats that you can borrow in the beginning. For hygiene reasons, it is advisable to buy your own mat. This is the only piece of equipment you will need to buy to attend classes. You might like to bring a small towel.

What do I wear?

Wear clothing that you can stretch and move comfortably in.

Do I need to be flexible to go to yoga?

No! There are modifications for every posture that make it easier if you are stiff and over time you will become more flexible but there is a lot more to yoga than flexibility. It’s also about strength building and cardiovascular fitness as well as mental well being.

Can I practise yoga if I have an injury/medical condition?

It depends on the injury/medical condition. Please let me know if you have any injuries or pre-existing medical issues (e.g. epilepsy, hypertension, low blood pressure, heart conditions, diabetes, etc.) and we can look at how you can practices safely and modify if necessary. It is also a good idea to check with your doctor before class.

Can I practise yoga if I am menstruating?

It’s perfectly fine to practice yoga during menstruation. However, I advise to take a gentle approach and avoid inversions and strong abdominal work such as sit ups.

Should I feel sore during/after the class?

In class we will be using muscles that you might not have used in awhile so you may feel sore afterwards and that is normal. The best thing to do is to do more yoga or some sort of movement the next day. If you feel pain immediately after class or a particular posture feels sore or really uncomfortable please let me know and we can modify or use an alternative. The practice is supposed to leave you feeling good so it’s important you pay attention to your own body and not do anything that doesn’t feel right for you..

Student Review

"Gillian’s yoga teaching style is unique and very flowing. It is great for strength and flexibility and I really notice a difference after just a few months. More so, I am more relaxed and content the rest of the time and feel like my busy life with 3 kids and a full time job is not so hard anymore."
